Château Larcis Ducasse, GCC

Bordeaux > Saint Emilion - 75.00% Merlot; 20.00% Cabernet Franc; 5.00% Cabernet Sauvignon

The Gratiot family (descendents of the Raba family) have owned Château Larcis Ducasse, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé, for over a century.
Larcis Ducasse's terroir of clay-limestone soil on south-facing slopes produces marvellously ripe grapes. These result in subtle, well-structured wines with a fresh, mineral flavour. This is largely due to the asteriated limestone bedrock on the plateau part of the vineyard associated with iron-rich feldspar sand at the foot of the slope.
Grape varieties are planted to match each type of soil and the final blend provides a perfect balance between aromas and tannin to make a wine of character. The terroir comes through magnificently on the palate, which has superb texture and length. Viticultural methods are kept as natural as possible, and yields are low. Maceration is gentle so as to avoid over-extraction and the wine is aged in barrel to highlight its elegance and the inimitable personality of its terroir.
