Masi Agricola

Icon in Valpolicella & Veneto

The Italian auto industry has Ferrari; the Valpolicella wine region has Masi. This statement by wine author Hervé Lalau in In Vino Veritas highlights the unique status of the Masi family winery. What Ferrari means to Italy on the road, Masi is to the Veneto in the wine cellar: innovation, tradition and a global reputation that exceeds every expectation.

"You want to know what real luxury is? It's authentic products made from raw materials selected with care and encapsulating the experience and the know-how that comes from a long tradition. - Raffaele Boscaini

A legacy of quality

In the late 18th century, the Boscaini family acquired an exceptional vineyard area in Valpolicella called Vaio dei Masi, or "little valley of Masi." The family decided to bottle their wines under the name of this unique vineyard, rather than their family name, laying the foundation for today's wine empire. Later they also acquired vineyards from the noble families Serego Alighieri and Bossi Fedrigotti, strengthening their vineyard portfolio with some of the most historic terroirs of Veneto and Trentino.

Masi' s international character was recently further expanded with vineyards in Argentina's Tupungato, an area known for its fertile soils and perfect climate for wine grapes. This expansion reflects Masi's ambition to bring Italian quality to the world level.

Ripasso

Masi is not only a keeper of tradition but also a pioneer in the wine world. The Boscaini family has gained world fame for their contribution to the Ripasso technique, a method that enhances the complexity and depth of Valpolicella wines by re-fermenting them on dried grape skins. Although Masi later abandoned the Ripasso method due to increasing imitation, the company continued to innovate. For example, their iconic Campofiorin a sophisticated blend composed in part of Appassimento wine, a wine made from dried grapes that provide concentrated flavor and unique depth.

World-class Amarone: Campolongo di Torbe and Mazzano

Masi's commitment to perfection is perhaps most evident in their Amarone wines. The Campolongo di Torbe and Mazzano are the house's top cru's and are produced only in the very best years. These Amarones represent the absolute pinnacle of Valpolicella winemaking and enjoy international recognition thanks to their rich, complex and elegant flavor profiles. Each glass tells a story of generations of experience, patience and craftsmanship.

Where tradition and innovation come together

Under the leadership of Sergio Boscaini, brother of current president Sandro Boscaini, the Masi Technical Group focuses on the preservation and development of historic grape varieties such as Oseleta, an indigenous variety that was nearly lost. With experimentation and improved techniques, the Boscaini family continues to work on the quality of their wines, always with an eye toward the future of Veneto wines. Their dedication to innovation and terroir research secures Masi's position as a leader in the Italian wine industry.

Today, Sandro Boscaini, the sixth generation of the family, is at the helm of Masi. His leadership reflects the values of the family business: respect for tradition combined with a bold vision for the future. From the vineyards of Italy to the foothills of the Andes in Argentina, Masi is a paragon of Italian wine ambition. The Masi name remains synonymous with the highest quality and craftsmanship, a reputation that has survived generations and continually adapts to the demands of the modern wine lover.
