The Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, first produced in 1888, was the very first Brunello di Montalcino Riserva in history. Even today, it is an extraordinary event when a new vintage Riserva is announced at Tenuta Greppo.
2010 is a truly exceptional vintage. June saw average rainfall followed by a dry July. August had light showers, leading into a warm and dry harvest season. Picking began on September 19.
For this Riserva, only grapes from the oldest vines, aged over 50 years, were used.
The 2010 vintage aged for three years in Slavonian oak barrels. The wine benefited from a long refinement in the bottle in the peace and darkness of “La Storica,” the bottle library of Tenuta Greppo, where all historic vintages of Biondi-Santi Riserva are meticulously preserved.
2010 was one of the most impressive vintages of the past 30 years, and the Riserva di Montalcino Riserva 2010 more than proves this. This is a tannic monument of a wine that will age well for decades, but is also accessible and enjoyable today. A Riserva that can be described as deep, intense, and structured, without losing the ‘Biondi-Santi touch’. The nose is explosive, full of dark berries, earth, underbrush, botanical herbs, a spicy note of star anise and white pepper, and leather. On the palate, the wine is balanced, with its powerful concentration coupled with a sense of elegance and strength. Tight, intense, super long, and persistent. The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2010 will have a long future ahead of it thanks to its incredible aging potential.
