Bodegas Arrocal is located in Gumiel de Mercado, a small village in the "golden triangle" of Ribera del Duero. The vineyards were planted by Moises Calvo and Rosa Arroyo, and the winery produced its first wine in 2001. A new wine cellar was built and commissioned for the 2005 harvest. Meanwhile, the sons of Moises and Rosa have taken over to make Arrocal a figurehead of the Ribeira del Duero.. In the new wine cellar, all grapes are moved by gravity to minimize rough treatment and to obtain a wine with a silky soft mouthfeel. Fruit expression is maximized by temperature-controlled fermentations, short maceration times and careful pressing with a low capacity.. After pressing, the wine is aged in used French oak barrels for a period of 12 months, after which a bottle rest period of 12 months follows.. The Tinto Fino grapes, also known as Tempranillo, come from vines of an average of 30 years old from the Los Corrales vineyard. Located at an altitude of 800 meters, which definitely benefits the freshness in the wine. Dominant clay soils supplemented with pebbles and larger stones that retain the heat.
