Brunello di Montalcino is the flagship wine of Biondi-Santi. This wine embodies the spirit of Tenuta Greppo and the winemaker's signature, forged over 150 years of history, with its balanced combination of fresh elegance, depth, and aristocratic personality.
2018 was a rather cool year, marked by abundant rainfall throughout the vine's growth cycle. The summer experienced below-average temperatures. Just before the harvest, a strong north wind arose, which helped dry the grapes, providing ideal preparation for a healthy harvest. The harvest began on September 16 and lasted eight days, with a meticulous selection of the best clusters.
Brunello di Montalcino 2018 is made from a careful selection of Sangiovese from parcels of its own vineyards, which are then vinified in barrels of different sizes and materials (stainless steel, oak, and concrete). It is then aged in medium and large-sized Slavonian oak barrels.
The 2018 vintage is an expressive and energetic Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino. Very refined and balanced. As soon as the wine enters the glass, the lower-than-usual alcohol is noticeable, along with aromas of dried herbs, violet, orange peel, blueberry, sour cherry, and crushed mint. The taste is delicious and juicy, ideal for drinking now, but it can also age nicely thanks to its fine acidity. A lively and juicy wine that literally dances on the palate, with velvety and polished tannins. An enchanting touch adds complexity to the finish.
