Originally known as the "White Label Brunello" from Biondi-Santi, this wine changed its name in 1983 when the DOC Rosso di Montalcino was created.
The Rosso di Montalcino reflects the distinctive style of Biondi-Santi's high-altitude vineyards, with a lively freshness and pronounced fruitiness that make this wine very enjoyable from a young age.
In 2020, a mild and dry winter was followed by a cool spring with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. A very unusual snowfall occurred on March 26, which fortunately did not cause much damage in the vineyards. The open bud flowering was only slightly delayed. June was quite rainy, allowing the soil to build up good water reserves. July and August saw very hot and dry days, while maintaining a positive temperature difference between day and night. This helped maintain the natural balance of the vines and develop a good aromatic profile of the grapes. Refreshing rains appeared at the end of August, just before the harvest which began on September 9.
The Rosso di Montalcino 2020 was produced from a careful selection of grapes from Biondi-Santi's own vineyards and was aged for 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels.
Juicy notes of red berries and plums rise from the glass on an energetic wave, releasing floral sensations of violet and red rose, accompanied by refreshing notes of lemon zest and blood orange, and a hint of fresh Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, the wine is lively, with fine-grained tannins, a vibrant acidity, and juicy, crunchy fruit, leading to a savory and persistent finish. An elegant and charming vintage of this Rosso di Montalcino.
