Domaine Weinbach, Clos des Capucins - Colette, Catherine & Laurence Faller
Historical heritage
In 1612, Capuchin monks built Domaine Weinbach at the foot of Schlossberg Mountain. The vineyards, crossed by a small river, are set amid a rich biodiversity of vineyards and rose gardens.
Clos des Capucins, with 5 hectares of vineyards, is located within the walls of a former Capuchin monastery dating back to the year 890, donated to the abbey by Empress Richarde
Exceptional mix of conditions
Domaine Weinbach's wines are produced with minimal intervention, focusing on respect for the grape. Delayed harvest, rigorous selection, gentle pressing and long aging in old oak barrels produce wines that are both complex and authentic.
Domaine Weinbach's vineyards lie on mineral soils whose geological diversity makes unique wines possible. Gentle slopes, the microclimate of the Kaysersberg valley and optimal sunlight provide ideal ripening conditions for the grapes.
Schlossberg: A legendary terroir
The Schlossberg, the first Alsace Grand Cru since 1975, offers exceptional conditions for the Riesling grape. The steep slopes and pure expression of fruit produce wines with finesse, such as the Cuvée Schlossberg from the top of the hill and the richer Cuvée Sainte Catherine from the lower part.
Noble sweet wines
The estate's wines, including Vendanges Tardives, Selection de Grains Nobles and Quintessences de Grains Nobles, are characterized by their aromatic complexity and rare balance. These wines are the result of overripe grapes affected by Botrytis, which increases their concentration and refinement.
Gastronomic perfection
Domaine Weinbach's wines, such as the Vendanges Tardives, pair excellently with foie gras or rich cheeses, while the Riesling Vendanges Tardives offers a rare balance of opulence and elegance. The Grains Nobles and Quintessences de Grains Nobles reflect the complexity and sophistication of the estate.
Today, Domaine Weinbach's wines can be found in the best restaurants worldwide and represent Alsace in numerous countries. The estate's wines are known for their aromatic richness, subtlety and inspiring ability to pair with gourmet dishes.
