In the heart of the prestigious Langhe wine region in Piedmont, Italy, lies wine estate Sottimano, a family-owned winery that excels at making authentic terroir wines. The domaine was founded in the late 1960s by Rino Sottimano, whose enthusiasm, courage and a touch of luck enabled him to acquire some of the finest vineyards in Barbaresco. His vision laid the foundation for a winery that couples the highest quality with a deep respect for nature.
Following a tragic accident suffered by Rino, the estate is today run by his children Andrea, Elena and Claudia. Andrea watches over the vineyards with great precision, while Elena passionately handles the vinification and raising of the wines. This family bond and their shared dedication are the backbone of Sottimano's success.
Sottimano's vineyards, totaling 18 hectares, are divided among famous crus such as Cottà, Pajoré, Fausoni, Currà and Basarin. A special feature is the high percentage of old vines, most of which are more than 50 years old. These vines, rooted in the calcareous clay and sandy soils of the Langhe, produce grapes of exceptional quality. Sottimano works completely organically and respects the terroir by treating the vineyards with the utmost care, without the use of chemicals or fertilizers.
The same philosophy continues in the basement. Here, oenological interventions are kept to a minimum, allowing the natural expression of each vineyard to reach its full potential. Thanks to this process, Sottimano produces wines that sublimely reflect the unique characteristics of each cru.
Led by the second generation, Sottimano remains true to Rino's legacy: terroir wines of absolute excellence, a mirror of the Langhe and the family's passion. Each glass is an ode to tradition, nature and craftsmanship.
