Domaines Ott
Delicate Provence wines
In 1896, Marcel Ott, an agricultural engineer from Alsace with a great pioneering spirit, had the idea of building a wine estate in Provence. Throughout history, the Ott family has chosen to expand their vineyards in the distinctive terroirs of Provence, thus highlighting the richness of this region.
Domaines Ott* is now present in two AOCs: Côtes de Provence (central Var and coastal region) and Bandol (coastal region). The wines of Château de Selle, Clos Mireille and Château Romassan reflect the typical character of their terroir, while benefiting from the same precision and high standards in all their winemaking and vinification processes.
Domaines Ott* owns a total of 500ha of which only 240ha are planted, the rest they leave in the wild or controlled fallow so as not to disturb the natural environment. A natural, respectful and sustainable viticulture to ensure that the three terroirs are respected and their quality is protected. organic crop certification since the 2022 harvest. Domaines Ott* was named "European Winery of the Year" in 2022 by Wine Enthusiast.
The iconic bottle was inspired by the shape of a Greek amphora found at Chateau de Selle. It was designed in 1932 by René Ott, Marcel's son, with the intention of making it the classic bottle shape for all Provençal wines - like the Alsace bottle. The current bottle is patented by Domaines Ott* and is a worldwide symbol of the quality of their wines.
Domaines Ott* has been making a light rosé since 1926. The Ott family has a century of experience making quality rosé wines. A pioneer in his field! They spend up to 3 times more time per hectare in the vineyards than the average competitor in the region. This did not escape the international trade press either, for the last 10 years Domaines Ott has consistently been voted the best rosé producer in the world!
The two signature ranges are Domaines Ott* and By Ott. All grapes come from our own vineyards and are produced in-house. No grapes or must are purchased, unlike many other domains in the region.
Domaines Ott*
Half an hour from Cannes, in the mountains, on a chalky soil, Grenache gives structure and finesse to this rosé. The roots here go up to 15 meters deep to find water! The wine reflects the complexity of its calcareous slopes and arid soil; austerity bathed in brilliant sunshine.
A mineral wine with a fresh mouthfeel and a delicately spicy finish. A subtle balance between structure and finesse, this wine is a perfect illustration of the precision required to make a rosé.
This unique, full-bodied wine celebrates a grape variety native to the Bordeaux region, Sémillon, which flourishes on the salty terroir of Clos Mireille. The estate is a stone's throw from Saint-Tropez, bordering the Mediterranean Sea. In addition to all the benefits of the sea air, dry slope air and abundant sunshine, the wine also benefits from the slate soil that is completely free of limestone.
A unique salty dimension combined with exceptional freshness and intense aromas of lemon.
Customization in both the vineyards and the cellar, with a commitment to excellence that far exceeds current Bandol AOC requirements. The result of a symbiosis of three Bandol terroirs - Brûlat, Hermitage and the historic Romassan terroir - and the traditional craftsmanship of a long line of winemakers.
Absolute king of this wine is Mourvèdre. Due to long aging in barrels and then in bottle in the cellar, the wines only reach the market after 4 years. The old vines with deep roots give this wine its exceptional quality.
The 18 months of aging in wood, mainly in small foudres, and the 18 to 24 months of aging in bottle play a decisive role in the final structure of the wine, which shows concentration and depth, combined with a unique finesse and silky texture.
Domaines Ott* wanted to capitalize on its unique Provençal playing field: three vineyards in two appellations, Bandol and Côtes de Provence. He used his in-depth knowledge of his vineyards, the grapes produced in them and the resulting wines.
Étoile is an invitation to taste and appreciate the essence of the identity of Domaines Ott* through three unique characteristics: the saltiness of Clos Mireille, the supple elegance of Château de Selle and the depth of Château Romassan. This triple identity offers chefs and sommeliers a true playing field when it comes to combining food and wine.
By Ott
By Ott is a careful composition of grapes sourced from the vineyards of Chateau de Selle and Clos Mireille. The wine is made from young vines aged 3 to 10 years. Afterwards, these vineyards are considered of sufficient quality to produce the great wines of Chateau de Selle and Clos Mireille.
By Ott is made in the cellar of Château de Selle, where part of the winery is devoted exclusively to its production. The entire process is controlled - from blending to storage - to ensure the perfect quality required for these wines.
This Grenache-based blend is an upbeat wine with a distinctly festive vibe. It offers an array of fresh fruit and citrus aromas, a hint of exoticism and a light but lively character. It is ideal as an aperitif or paired with light dishes. Perfect for any occasion!
